40 Day Journey

Welcome to the forty-day Lenten challenge! Reading through the Gospel of John in forty days may sound like a daunting task, but you can do it, and it will be worth it! Just keep in mind these words by the ancient Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu: “The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” This reading plan has the entire Gospel of John divided into daily readings, taking breaks on Sundays. It will take you on the journey of Jesus’ ministry over forty days; through the twelve signs, into his passion during Holy Week, and his resurrection at Easter.

John is unique among the Gospels. Of the four, John has the highest Christology; which means it has the highest view of Jesus’ divinity. Whereas Matthew, Mark, and Luke may emphasize Jesus’ humanity; John elevates Jesus as God, or God’s son.

Along with your daily personal, devotional reading, a different member of Broadmoor Baptist Church will provide a devotion for each week of Scripture readings. Just check your email each Monday in Lent, March 4 – April 15. Or, if you prefer, you may pick up a hard copy of the daily readings at sanctuary entrances, in Sunday School, or in the Church Office. Take the first step. And when you arrive at Easter’s doorstep, you will feel you have truly journeyed with Jesus. Join in as we dig into Scripture this coming Lenten season!
